Scott Brown Win Deals Blow to Obama and Health Care Bill

The Independent voters of Massachusetts delivered President Obama, Democrats and the Healthcare Reform Bill a crushing blow yesterday by electing (R) Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of (D) Sen. Teddy Kennedy late last year.

The independent voters, in electing Scott Brown, further sent notice to Obama and the progressives in Washington a loud and clear message that the people are no longer going to tolerate governments abuse of its powers and control over the American people. The overriding issue in the senate race may have been Healthcare but, the message went deeper. Independent's want to see fundamental change in DC with limited government control, fiscal responsibility, National debt reduction, focus on the economy and new employment, elimination of back room deals and concessions for votes, lower taxes and true transparency and honesty in their elected officials.

Independent voters have laid down the gauntlet with their mandate for our elected officials to either tow the line, listen to and do what the people want or you are OUT of office regardless of your party affiliation.

Its also noteworthy, that this election stood for more than just another race between a Democrat and Republican candidate but, the coming of age and strength of the Independent voter. Sixty-one percent of the voters registered in Massachusetts yesterday where Independents, which is a growing trend throughout the states today. No longer are Independents a minority amongst the two parties but a major force that Republicans nor Democrats can any longer rely on to put them over the top in an election. The Independent now has the ability to seek out third and fourth party candidates who more closely represent their views of moderation, common sense and honesty and elect this candidate over that of the other two parties.

There was no splitting of the vote for either Republicans or Democrats to point as their downfall or gain. This was an honest to goodness Independent vote that elected Scott Brown. This election, should the people recognize their achievement and strength, will serve to reshape the political landscape, the inadequate two party system and the face of America.

This definitely seems a trend setter and lack of approval of the govt policies, especially health care bill. I think this is the big blow as this was almost the basis of winning elections by Obama.

A stinging loss Tuesday in Massachusetts cost Obama the 60-vote Senate majority he was counting on to pass the far-reaching legislation. The outcome splintered the rank and file on how to salvage the bill, energized congressional Republicans and left Obama and the Democrats with fallback options that range from bad to worse.

A leading idea involves persuading House Democrats to pass a Senate bill that many of them have serious problems with. Another alternative calls for Senate Democrats to promise to make changes to the bill later on. Some Democrats said their big hopes would have to be scaled back.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to acknowledge that as a possibility as she left the Capitol near midnight Tuesday after meeting with her top lieutenants to discuss the way forward. Pelosi and others contend that because Massachusetts already has near-universal health coverage under a state law, the upset victory by GOP state Sen. Scott Brown to take Edward M. Kennedy’s old seat could not be seen as a referendum on the issue.

hindsight is really 20/20 in the end the bill was passed. During all these fiasco, i kept thinking about a phrase, whose original author i’ve forgotten:

“If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until its free.
